Maxim -- the new
Chicago Sun-Times young-adult tabloid
Red Streak is featuring more skin than any of the slick laddie magazines. On Nov. 18, its back cover featured a blonde groping the ample breasts of her partner in the "Russian singing duo, Tabu," while a Page One photo on Nov. 19 displayed what is no doubt a first for a U.S. general-interest newspaper: 50 naked women -- pubic triangles visible even in the aerial shot -- lying on the ground so they spell out the word "peace."
"I think the
Red Streak can be a little more daring," said
Sun-Times Editor in Chief Michael Cooke, who added the paper received no complaints at all, probably because of its protest context: "If it had been the words 'F--- me' spelled out by Playboy Bunnies, now that would be another thing."

RedEye on Nov. 19 also featured a large photo involving sex, but in a more yucky kind of way: It depicted a young man getting a syphilis test.
