No Sale: 'Newton Record' Stays Folded

Posted
By: E&P Staff There's apparently no savior for The Newton (Miss.) Record, which published its last edition Jan. 14.

An Associated Press article incorrectly reported the paper had been sold to the owner of another Mississippi paper. AP cited a Meridian TV station report for its article, which was briefly posted on E&P's Web site.

The weekly 2,400-circulation Record closed after 107 years serving Newton County. As Publisher and Editor Robbie Robertson explained in Record article on the shuttering, subscribers of the paper will receive the Sunday edition of The Meridian Star, a sibling Community Newspaper Holdings Inc. (CNHI) paper published in neighboring Lauderdale County.

All four employees lost their jobs with the folding of the Record.
