North Central News Inc. Partners with Local Radio in Cross-Promotion

Posted
By: E&P Staff Phoenix-based newspaper company North Central News Inc. (NCN) has teamed up with three local CBS radio affiliates for a new marketing campaign in which NCN?s three community newspapers will promote the radio stations, and the CBS stations will encourage listeners to read NCN?s print and online publications.

The local focus of both the radio stations and NCN?s three ?hometown? papers compliment each other, and the companies hope the cross-promotion will increase their number of readers and listeners.

Each side sees the partnership as win-win. ?It?s a natural fit ? local, grassroots radio stations working with local community newspapers to reach niche markets,? Mark T. Waters, senior vice president and Phoenix market manager for CBS radio, said in an article for East Valley (Ariz.) Living.

NCN operates three free local papers in and around Phoenix, Ariz. The papers reach the communities of north central Phoenix, central and south Scottsdale, and the city of Tempe. The papers cover local issues from crime and city government to local volunteer profiles and high school sports games.

NCN hopes that the radio stations will direct more people to the newspapers? Web sites (northcentralnews.net, tempetownnews.net, and otscottsdalenews.net). Their sites will also link to the CBS affiliates? homepages.
