North Jersey Media Licenses PBS Circ System

By: E&P Staff Minneapolis-based Publishing Business Systems signed an agreement with North Jersey Media Group to license its MediaPlus Circulation system. The growing, independent Hackensack, N.J., company sought to replace three circulation applications with one system able to support all publications in its Daily, Weekly, and Specialty Publications Divisions.

A common database for all publications, with improved reporting, simplifies support and gives circulation several advantages. IT staffer and PBS installation project manager Karl von Jena said, for example, that by using MediaPlus Circulation reporting tools with MediaPlus InSight business intelligence software, the company will be able to generate reports faster and more accurately.

The system's support of customer-relationship management includes MediaPlus List MatchPlus for importing external lists and the Target Marketing feature in MediaPlus Circulation, which permits market segmentation by household or lifestyle demographics for aiding in the distribution of targeted marketing campaigns (by direct mail, telemarketing, or e-mail delivery) and measuring results by tracking and analyzing campaign activity.

Circulation Information Systems Manager William George said North Jersey Media will exploit PBS's detailed documentation to create interfaces with financial systems such as SAP and NOVA, as well as production systems such as NES and Syncronex.

The company will run MediaPlus Circulation in an Oracle environment, for which it already had made "a significant investment" in both software and support staff for other major systems, said von Jena.
