North Jersey's 'Record' and 'Herald News' Merge Web Sites

By: Joe Strupp The owners of The Record of Hackensack, N.J., which are already considering selling that paper's building and moving it in with the sister Herald News of West Paterson, made another consolidation, merging the two newspapers' Web sites.

North Jersey Media Group reports it will "combine content from both newspapers and provide readers with a comprehensive one-stop news source for northern New Jersey," a release said.

"The Herald News Web site, MyHeraldNews.com, was officially shut down on Thursday. Readers logging on to the site are redirected to the North Jersey Media Group site, www.northjersey.com."

Michael Ciullo, vice president for interactive media for North Jersey Media Group, stressed that readers will not miss anything.

"The same content will be fed to NorthJersey.com," he said. "We look at NorthJersey.com as more of a regional aggregator."

Ciullo added that the site will allow a more personalized news presentation: "The user now has the ability to view content by topic, by town or by regional cluster. For example, if I care to read news by sports and Better Living, I can do that. Or if I want to look at news clusters by Little Falls, West Paterson and Paterson, I can do that, too."

The company added that, by March, content from its 45 non-daily newspapers will feed into the Web site, "making it the region's largest news-gathering operation."

"We're streamlining media on the homepage, so if there's a photo or video from the Herald News, that would be cycled into it," he said. "Whoever gets the better story, will get the play."
