Norton Press Sold to American Hometown Publishing

By: E&P Staff American Hometown Publishing has purchased the Norton Press from third generation owners Jenay and Michael Tate. Terms of the transaction, brokered by Cribb & Associates, were not disclosed.

The sale included The Coalfield Progress, a twice-weekly 95 year-old paper in Norton, Va.; The Post, a 115-year-old weekly serving the towns of Appalachia and Big Stone Gap in Virginia; and The Dickenson Star, a weekly serving Dickenson County in Virginia.

Norton Press has been in continual family ownership for 85 years

Jenay Tate will remain as publisher of the company. "This is a good thing for our employees and our communities," she said in a statement. Michael Tate will assist the new owners during the transition.
