By: E&P Staff Hammered by a double-digit decline in automotive and continued weakness in real estate classified, Lee Enterprises reported Monday that its July same-property advertising revenue fell 2.1%.
Year-to-date, ad revenue is down 1.1% compared to the same period in 2006, Davenport, Iowa-based Lee said.
Total same-property operating revenue fell 2.1% for the month, and was down 0.9% year to date, Lee said. Including new and shed properties, total operating revenue declined 2.2% for the month and 0.8% year to date.
Lee said its combined print and online classified fell 4.4% in the month, and 1.1% year to date. Help-wanted increased 3.6% in the month, and was up 5.8% for the year. Automotive plunged 12.3% in July, and was down 6.0% for the year. Real estate fell 9.3% for the month, and was down 5.8% year to date.
Retail ad revenue increased 0.6% in July, and was up 0.4% year to date. National advertising revenue fell 7.2% for the month, and was down 6.3% for the year.
Circulation revenue declined 3.3% in July, and was down 1.4% year to date.
Lee, publisher of 51 dailies, said its same-property online advertising revenue increased 62.5% in July, and was up 57.2% year to date.
