By: E&P Staff The National Society of Newspaper Columnists (NSNC) today released more information about its 2008 conference in New Orleans, where attendees will have the opportunity to participate in and/or write about the post-Hurricane Katrina recovery effort.
Attendees can write columns after hearing stories from survivors and visiting various parts of the city. "We plan on gathering these columns in book form, sharing our thoughts and feelings not only with our regular readers but with readers across the country," said 2008 conference chair and The Advocate of Baton Rouge columnist Smiley Anders, writing on the NSNC
site.
With the NSNC's help, columnists can also arranged to work on rebuilding projects run by Habitat for Humanity and other groups. Some columnists will arrive early for that purpose.
The June 19-22 conference will also feature speakers (in addition to Katrina survivors), awards presentations, and more.
It was only three years ago (in 2004) that the NSNC last met in New Orleans. "We've never come back to the same place so soon," said Anders. "We?re returning to show our support and to be part of the recovery effort."
