By: E&P Staff Montreal-based Nstein Technologies Inc. has launched WCM 4.1, a feature-rich upgrade to its content management system. Among additions is WCM Mojo, a portable, mobile back-office version of WCM that enables smart-phone equipped journalists to create and work with content in the field.
Like WCM, version 4.1 requires little to no training to master, according to NStein. It features a fully extensible drag-and-drop-enabled customizable dashboard that allows users to develop their own layouts from a pre-configured widget library. Also new in WCM 4.1 are support for WordPress and other blogs, support for forums using the vBulletin plug-in, crawling site map generator and Google keyword helper for editors.
The WCM 4.1 architecture has migrated to the REST protocol as "the best way to ensure seamless and highly scalable interoperability between Web-based applications," Nstein CTO Jean-Michel Texier said in a statement, citing mash-ups done with Facebook or Google as examples.
REST, or Representational State Transfer, implements a Web service by enabling an application to interact with an information source by knowing only its identifier, desired activity, and format of the returned information. Each message is sufficient to be understood by itself, allowing interaction without recourse to tracking and associating individual requests in a transaction or sequence of communications.
Optional WCM Mojo is a lightweight add-on client that connects seamlessly to WCM via newer smart-phone browsers, allowing journalists to create and edit stories and slideshows, manage contributions, and follow editorial and behavioral statistics in real time. It also allows editors to execute repetitive editorial tasks such as content approvals and content bundling while in transit.
"WCM Mojo enables our customers to stay on location to be the first to deliver up-to-the-minute updates using a rich, ergonomic mobile application dedicated to writers," Texier said.
