By: Laura Mart?nez New York's Daily News will begin publishing a new Spanish-language weekly newspaper Thursday, its third attempt since 1994 to enter the New York area's fast-growing Hispanic market.
Hora Hispana will be distributed free to 200,000 Hispanic households in Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens and will feature articles and resources for first- and second-generation Spanish speakers.
"All the material will be original," explains Hora Hispana editor Argentine journalist Rodolfo Queeblen. "We'll only translate a few opinion columns from our edition in English."
The first issue will feature 12 editorial pages out of a total 32, with information about culture, personal finance, and immigration. Some of the paper's advertisers include local retailers Seaman's, Gothic Cabinet Craft, and Pathmark.
The first incursion of the Daily News in the Hispanic market was in 1994 with an insert called Noticias de los Pueblos Latinoamericanos, which lasted only a few months. In 1995, the company started a new adventure with El Daily News, a bilingual daily which also was short-lived.
