N.Y. 'Daily News' Taps Ferag for Daily Inserting

Posted
By: E&P Staff New York's Daily News today announced it is buying inserting equipment made by Ferag in Hinwil, Switzerland, after working to develop a system for daily inserting with the manufacturer and with Goss International, Ferag's North American sales partner.

The sale consists of UTR gripper conveyers to existing bundle-packaging lines, DiscPool buffering for continuous winding and unwinding of newspaper copies, and MultiSert inserting drums to enable insertion of a variety of preprints into the newspaper, and a Ferag integrated process-control system.

To be taken into production late next year, the equipment will "allow us to respond to the needs of our readers and advertisers faster and enhances our leadership position in the New York market," Daily News CEO Marc Kramer said in a statement.

"Our new Ferag equipment will provide advertisers with greater flexibility to be creative with their advertising inserts as well as the ability to better target consumers in various parts of the New York market any day of the week," said Advertising Senior Vice President John Polizano.

Inserting into the Sunday edition will continue under the newspaper's current arrangement with a third-party inserting vendor.
