By: E&P Staff The Daily News in New York is launching two weekly newspapers in Brooklyn and Queens beginning May 23.
The zoned editions of the Daily News will carry a separate 32-page newspaper containing borough-related news and features. Two days later, an additional 230,000 copies of the section will be hand-delivered to doorsteps. Twenty thousand copies will be at commuter points.
"With the New York Post and The New York Times focusing on expanding their circulation outside the designated market area, we continue to zero in on the boroughs," Marc Kramer, CEO of the Daily News, said in a statement. "We are convinced that local coverage is becoming more and more important."
Daily circulation at the paper declined 3.6% to 708,477 and Sunday circulation dropped 4.7% to 795,153 according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations FAS-FAX report released today.
