N.Y. 'Daily News' Tops 'NY Post' in Circ

Posted
By: E&P Staff The New York Post which overtook the New York Daily News during the last circulation period for the six-months ending March 2007 has been knocked down a notch.

During the September 2007 time frame, the Daily News inched ahead with a daily circ of 681,415 while the Post reported a daily circ of 667,199.

Not shy about the gain, the Daily News -- which sells for twice as much as the Post -- immediately issued this statement: "The Daily News has sold for a newsstand cover price of 50 cents over the last seven years while the Post has been selling for half that amount," Rhonda Novick, senior vice president of circulation, said.

"Last April the Post doubled its daily copy price to 50 cents and barely a week later, after significant circulation losses, announced that it would return to its 25 cents copy price. The consumer has spoken about the value of the NY Post."

Well perhaps. The ABC report also revealed that The Daily News increased its other-paid circulation 28.7% this period while its discounted copies grew almost 40%.
