By: E&P Staff An exhibit focusing on the work of female cartoonists from the early 20th century to the 1970s will run through this Saturday at the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art in New York City.
This Thursday at 7 p.m., playwright Laura Rohrman -- granddaughter of "Brenda Starr" creator Dale Messick -- will present a reading of "Reporter Girl" at the museum. It's a fictionalized dramatic work based on the life of Messick (who died last month at the age of 98) as she worked in the male-dominated field of cartooning in the 1930s and '40s.

Next month, on June 11 and 12, the museum will hold its 4th annual art festival at Manhattan's Puck Building, 295 Lafayette St. Among the scheduled guests is "Mutts" creator Patrick McDonnell of King Features Syndicate, and among the exhibitors will be the National Cartoonists Society.
