The New York Times has partnered with Holtzbrinck Publishers, a

German media group, to relaunch its Times Books imprint.

Holtzbrinck's U.S. publisher, Henry Holt and Co., will co-publish books

under the Times Books imprint in categories such as current events,

history, science, technology, business, and health. Holtzbrinck's St.

Martin's Press will publish titles covering reference, cooking, travel, and

crossword puzzles.

The first titles under this partnership will appear in the spring of 2001.

Among the books will be: 'How Race Is Lived In America,' based on the

currently running Times series; 'The New York Times Guide to

Alternative Medicine;' and from the paper's business management series,

'The New York Times Management Reader.'

Michael Levitas, director of the Times's book development program,

will be responsible for the newspapers' editorial interests.

Until December 1999, Times Books was licensed to Random House, an
agreement

that began in 1984.
