'NY Times Magazine' Examines Philly Newspaper Crisis This Sunday

By: Joe Strupp The New York Times Magazine takes on the status of Philadelphia's two daily newspapers in a piece this Sunday that lets former Philly reporter Michael Sokolove ponder how is former employers are facing their recent financial troubles.

Among the thoughts from Publisher Brian Tierney and Philadelphia Inquirer Editor Bill Marimow is Tierney's claim that charging for the Web is worthwhile because people pay for many other less-useful things.

Among Tierney's proof, the fact that people will pay $1.25 for a bad bagel: "That's what people pay for stuff like this, so you mean to tell me I can't get them to pay that for online access to all the incredible stuff in The Inquirer and Daily News online?"
