'NY Times' Responds to Report It Will Scuttle Circuits Section

Posted
By: Brian Orloff In a Wednesday story, New York Post media reporter Keith J. Kelly reported that the rival New York Times is reportedly planning to drop its techy Circuits section in April and replace it with a new shopping, fitness, and fashion-focused section. The story even named possible editors for the new section.

"The New York Times has finally caught on to the idea that the dot-com bubble has burst," Kelly wrote.

When E &P first contacted the Times, a spokesperson issued no comment. But today, Catherine Mathis, vice president of corporate communications, sent E & P an e-mail that revealed, if vaguely, that changes are indeed being considered, but not set: "There is no plan to abandon the valuable coverage in the Circuits section. We are discussing how we package that material, and we will let readers know when and if we change the format."
