By: E&P Staff In an interview appearing in this Sunday?s New York Times Magazine, writer Deobrah Solomon tweaks Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Ca.) about her novel, released next week, called ?A Time to Run.? Solomon wants to know, for example, what we are to make of the fact that the lead character is a Democratic senator from California ?who appears to be the most decent in all of Washington? and that Democrats ?are portrayed as saints, the Republicans as snakes??
Boxer replies: ?Let the reader judge. I come to the book with a point of view. But my characters, I believe they?re multidimensional.?
Pressed further, she says that Democrats are not more virtuous than Republications, as individuals: ?But as parties, I think the Democrats have virtuous goals.?
Asked if she would ever confirm a Republican nominee for the Supreme Court , she says she sent a letter to President Bush with the names of two Republican judges from California, but never heard from him.
She also confirmed that she would not run for President in 2008.
The Publisher?s Weekly review of her book (which is written with Mary-Rose Hayes), concluded: ?All of this is by-the-numbers stuff, but Boxer brings been-there nuance to the backbiting, hazardous personal disclosures and naked power mongering of California and Washington politics.?
