By: E&P Staff In an interview with Deborah Solomon in the Dec. 4 edition of The New York Times magazine, actor Ron Silver defended his new appointment to the U.S. Institute of Peace and took a shot at his former party. "The Democratic party," he said, "is becoming the tool of an extreme domestic leftist insurgency led by the Michael Moores and the Cindy Sheehans and other neoreactionary, neoisolatonist Americans."
He denied he got his appointment because he knows George W. Bush, saying he was not a "crony" of the president, who insists on calling him "Ronnie." Citing his experience for the institute position, Silver said he studied languages and Chinese studies in college, was in ROTC, went to law school, and, "I have always been attracted to the world of intelligence."
Asked if he was in the CIA, he replied: "No, I am not. Are you going to out me? I can't believe this. I told one person: Bob Woodward. Ask him."
What about his new documentary, "Broken Promises," about the United Nations? "If you and I put a flag outside our door and we called ourselves a country, we would have a seat at the table."
