'NY Times' Teams Up With Microsoft to Produce Software to Enhance Reader Experience

Posted
By: E&P Staff At the American Society of Newspaper Editors Conference in Seattle today The New York Times and Microsoft unveiled a prototype of a new PC-based software called Times Reader that the companies hope will enhance the online and offline reading experience of the newspaper.

The text in Times Reader is displayed in columns and formats to fit the size and layout of any computer screen, and allows readers to customize their display. The program uses the font and styles of the New York Times, maintaining the brand, but it also allows users access to the increased functionality of the web. The program allows users to download the latest version of the paper, so that they can take it on their laptops wherever they go, to read when it is most convenient. Users can annotate and clip documents with the rogram and it retains locally a seven day searchable archive.
