NYC Tabs Report Circ Increases

Posted
By: Jennifer Saba It's FAS-FAX time again and that means another round of one-upmanship within the ranks of the Gotham tabs, the New York Post and the Daily News.

The Post crowed in its Friday edition that its circ grew by 57,932 copies a day (678,012) for the six month period ending March -- or a 9% increase from the same period last year. Sunday circ grew a hair less than 6%. For the period ending September 2003, ABC reported the Post's daily circ at 652,426. The paper sells for $.25.

The Daily News beat the Post -- at least reporting on its own circ increases -- which it did in its Monday, April 26 edition. For the six-month period ending March 2004, the Daily News reported a daily increase of 10,000 copies (747,053) or a 1.4% increase for the same period last year. Sunday circ declined by 1%. For the period ending September 2003, the Daily News reported a daily circ of 729,124, according to ABC. The News sells for $.50.
