By: E&P Staff Alberto Vourvoulias-Bush, a former deputy editor of Time Magazine's Latin America Edition, will be the new executive editor at El Diario La Prensa, the New York City Spanish-language daily announced Tuesday.
Vourvoulias-Bush's appointment is effective June 1. He replaces Pedro Rojas, whom the paper said has returned to California for family reasons.
Most recently, Vourvoulias-Bush was managing editor of the magazine ARTnews. Before that he served as deputy editor of Time Magazine?s Latin America edition and as director of Time Americas. He has worked at Poder magazine as director of ?An Agenda for the Americas,? a conference on U.S.-Latin American issues. He spent four years at the Council on Foreign Relations as a research associate for the foreign policy think tank, and has been a lecturer at New York University and an instructor at Yale University.
Vourvoulias-Bush was born in Mexico, and raised in Guatemala by a Guatemalan mother and a North American father.
"His journalistic leadership in covering local and Latin American issues combined with his demonstrated editorial and management skills will allow us to continue to build upon our paper?s strengths and further empower our readers," El Diario Publisher and CEO Rossana Rosado said in a statement.
El Diario is the top-selling Spanish-language daily in the New York market, with a circulation of 50,100.
