By: E&P Staff The New York Times Co. New England Media Group announced Tuesday that it signed a multi-year contract to print two GateHouse Media Inc. afternoon dailies in Massachusetts, The Patriot Ledger, Quincy, and The Enterprise, Brockton.
Printing of both papers is expected to begin in fall, after GateHouse's copmpletes negotiations with its unions.
Since beginning printing and distribution of New York's Daily News in 2005, the New England Media Group has expanded commercial printing, adding Boston Metro and the New York Post last year.
The latest print contract covers both Boston-area Gatehouse papers' entire print runs. The six-day Patriot Ledger circulates 52,638 copies on weekdays and 63,095 on Saturday. The Enterprise has a daily circulation of 31,352 and Sunday circulation of 36,824.
Other commercial customers include Nantucket Inquirer-Mirror's weekly real estate supplement and The Catholic Free Press.
The New England Media Group's three plants print The Boston Globe, Worcester Telegram & Gazette, and New England editions of The New York Times, as well as the Globe's and Sunday Telegram's tv programming guides. It recently expanded its Millbury plant to handle various formats, including ad inserts and niche products, bound and unbound.
