By: E&P Staff The New York Times Co. reported today that August advertising revenue dropped 14.1% compared to the same period a year ago. Total revenue declined 8.8% for the month.
Weakness in print advertising at the company's News Media Group dragged results down for the month. For the group, ad revenue fell 15.9%.
At the New York Times Media Group, which includes the flagship paper, ad revenue decreased 15.1% because of softness in every category. The technology, studio entertainment, hotel, and telecommunications categories pulled down national altogether.
At the New England Media Group, ad revenue plummeted 16.4%. The Regional Media Group reported a 17.5% drop in ad revenue.
Internet advertising revenue advanced 7.9% at the News Media Group on gains in display advertising. At the About Group, ad revenue was up 16.1%. Overall, total Internet revenue was up 10.9% and accounted for more than 12% of total ad revenue in August, up from 11% in August 2007.
