By: E&P Staff William Denis Curtin, a copy editor at The New York Times since 1962, died Monday of cardiac arrest. He was 60.
After attending Iona College for two years, Curtin joined the Times as a part-time copy boy. In 1969, he became a copy editor in the financial news department. He remained at the Times for the rest of his career, except for four years in the early 1990s, when he worked at Forbes magazine. Curtin's most recent position at the Times was working at the Metro copy desk.
In addition to his work at the Times, Curtin served as a shop steward and a vice chairman of the Newspaper Guild's New York Times unit in the early 1980s. He also served as a trustee of the Guild-Times Benefits Fund.
Curtin is survived by his wife, Eileen, three daughters, a brother, and two grandsons.
