By: E&P Staff The New York Times is revamping its arts and entertainment section and the Sunday Book Review, both which will be introduced on Oct. 3.
"We're adding people, space, and ideas to make our arts coverage even more vigorous and news-driven," said Jonathan Landman, cultural editor of The New York Times, in a statement.
The paper is reorganizing its culture news department to emphasize specific beats and has appointed nine editors to oversee criticism, architecture, art, books, classical music, dance film, pop culture, television, and theater. New hires include Manohla Dargis as chief West Coast film critic, Charles Isherwood as theater critic, and Nicolai Ouroussoff as architecture critic. Under the editorship of Sam Tanenhaus, the Sunday Book Review will become more "magazine-like."
