'NYT' Working On News Corp. Investigation

Posted
By: Joe Strupp The New York Times is reportedly working on a major investigation into News Corp., according to The New York Observer, which reported today that it's being led by Times Managing Editor Jill Abramson.

Citing unnamed sources, the Observer reported that "Abramson is working outside of the newsroom, recovering from injuries sustained during a traffic accident last month." The report also referenced an e-mail from Abramson to the paper that stated, "Bill [Keller, executive editor] has asked me to lead an investigative project for the next month, which I'll mainly do from home. ... It involves a group of domestic and foreign reporters, but I obviously can't tell you what it is."

The investigation would be occurring as News Corp. Chairman Rupert Murdoch is seeking to buy Dow Jones & Co., owners of The Wall Street Journal and other major financial reporting properties.

Abramson and Keller, as well as Times media relations officials, could not immediately be reached for comment Wednesday.
