NYTimes.com Launches Financial News Site

By: E&P Staff The New York Times launched DealBook today. The site within a site covers financial news and perhaps is the Time?s answer to The Wall Street Journal?s MarketWatch. The report, edited by Times mergers and acquisitions scribe Andrew Ross Sorkin, is continually updated Monday through Friday by Times business reporters.

The site will cover mergers and acquisitions, private equity, hedge funds, venture capital, initial public offerings, investment banking, and legal and regulatory issues.

"Like most folks on Wall Street and in corporate America, I spend an inordinate amount of time chasing down leads and trying to keep up with the constant onslaught of financial news," said Sorkin, in a statement. "DealBook brings together the most important and relevant news in one place, with the sensibility of a busy executive in mind."

DealBook is an extension of the daily e-mail newsletter by the same name that reaches roughly 160,000 subscribers. Now DealBook consists of three outlets, the Web site, the newsletter, and a Sunday column.

"The DealBook newsletter, which started in 2001, has gained a loyal and growing readership," said Leonard Apcar, editor in chief of NYTimes.com, in a statement. "This new service takes it to the next level."
