NYTS Offering Pre-Valentine's Day Feature

By: E&P Staff The New York Times Syndicate, which distributes the Scientific American News Service, is offering a Scientific American Mind magazine article on kissing that can be purchased separately.

"Why We Kiss," billed as a "Valentine's Day Report," is a 2,400-word piece (plus sidebar) by Chip Walter. He explores the "different messages that men and women send and receive in a kiss," discusses why most people turn their heads to the right when kissing, mentions various kinds of kisses, and more. The feature comes with art.

Walter is author in residence at Carnegie Mellon University's Mellon Institute. His most recent book is "Thumbs, Toes, and Tears: And Other Traits That Make Us Human."
