By: E&P Staff The New York Times Syndicate is offering a 1,000-word essay on global warming and related issues.
"Act Now to Save Life on Earth" is adapted from Pulitzer Prize-winning author Edward O. Wilson's new book "The Creation" (W.W. Norton, 2006).
Wilson, a biologist and Harvard University professor, writes in the essay: "Except for giant meteorite strikes or other such catastrophes, Earth has never experienced anything like the contemporary human juggernaut. We are in a bottleneck of overpopulation and wasteful consumption that could push half of Earth's species to extinction in this century."
The essay is being syndicated around the time of Earth Day, which is this Sunday.
