NYTS Offers an Appreciation of Paul Newman

Posted
By: E&P Staff An appreciation of the late Paul Newman is being offered by the New York Times Syndicate.

Included is a 1,400-word main piece and 400-word sidebar by NYTS entertainment editor Gayden Wren, as well as photos of the actor -- who was also a race-car enthusiast and philanthropist.

Wren writes: "If the part needed a movie star, Paul Newman was your man. Flashing that cocky smile, those blue eyes glittering, he could carry off star turns in films such as 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid' or 'The Color of Money' as well as any man in Hollywood.

"If the part needed an actor, however, Newman was equally up to it. Trained in the rigors of the Method, Newman could burrow into a part so deeply as to be almost unrecognizable, as he proved in films as diverse as 'Cool Hand Luke,' 'The Verdict,' and 'Mr. & Mrs. Bridge.'"
