By: E&P Staff With the resignation of Fidel Castro announced today, the New York Times Syndicate is offering two stories relating to the Cuban leader.
One, from 1957, is called "Cuban Rebel Is Visited in Hideout." It's a piece by New York Times writer Herbert L. Matthews (1900-1977) that runs 4,400 words complete or 1,600 words abridged. The complete version is also available in Spanish.
The other is a present-day piece by Alfredo Prieto and Aviva Chomsky called "Cuba Has Already Begun the Post-Fidel Future." It runs 1,200 words.
Prieto is editor of the journal "Temas" and associate editor of the magazine "Caminos." Chomsky is a professor of history and coordinator of Latin American studies at Salem State College in Massachusetts.
