By: E&P Staff Richard Esposito, publisher of The Oak Ridger, announced this morning in his weekly column that the five-day Tennessee newspaper's plant is for sale for $1.675 million. A local Realtor was retained to assist with the sale.
The 30,000-square-foot building houses the business offices and a printing plant that has been closed since printing was moved two years ago The Knoxville News Sentinel (E&P March 2008, E&P Online, May 3, 2007).
Dismantling of the old TKS singlewide press has freed up "almost 24,000 square feet of industrial space," according to Esposito, who added that metal-frame structure sits on 5.5 acres of land east of downtown and still contains an empty 1,500-gallon ink tank.
The Oak Ridger, which turned 60 in January, will look for "a more cost-efficient location in Oak Ridge for its offices" after the old building is sold, according to a report by Editor Darrell Richardson.
