With their varied species of cubs and curmudgeons, newspaper newsrooms can easily be compared to a zoo. But Orange County Register columnist Frank Mickadeit is taking that a step further -- he’s put himself in a cage at the Santa Ana Zoo.

He’s been in the cage since Tuesday morning and isn’t leaving until Thursday afternoon.

He’s streaming his experience as a primate on display over the Internet. (Check it out here.)

“It feels good,” Mickadeit told the newspaper. “It's a nice day; weather isn't going to be too much of a factor. I feel good about this."

Mickadeit said he’s about 30 feet away from a crested capuchin monkey, described by Zoo Director Kent Yamaguchi as the most dangerous animal at the zoo.

Mickadeit himself is in an exhibit he's calling, "Columnist in a Cage: columnist horribilis in his Natural Environment."
