O.C. Register Issues Disneyland Commemorative Sections and Launches New Website Exactly sixty years ago today, on July 17, 1955, Walt Disney stood at the entrance of Disneyland Park and introduced his magical world of wonder, surprises and adventure. Disney's dream to create a one-of-a-kind entertainment kingdom on a 160-acre patch of land in Anaheim has since captivated the world, and expanded even beyond his own brilliant imagination. The Orange County Register, the park’s hometown newspaper, is celebrating the diamond anniversary today by launching the ultimate destination website at ocregister.com/disneyland, publishing a 60-year anniversary section in the Register today, and reprinting a limited-edition ‘souvenir’ edition exactly as it ran in 1955. "Disneyland touches so many aspects of Orange County and readers’ lives, and is a huge part of Orange County’s identity," said Rich Mirman, Freedom CEO and Publisher of the Register. "The website and commemorative editions explain Disneyland's incredible growth and impact on the world, and reflect the passion people have for Disneyland within our community." OCREGISTER.COM/DISNEYLAND The Register debuts one of the most extensive collections of Disneyland information ever compiled for the web with today’s launch of ocregister.com/disneyland. The  site combines useful information from numerous sources into one comprehensive resource, including all of the Register’s latest news stories, photos and videos, as well as deep looks at Disneyland’s history from the newspaper’s archives. The website also helps visitors maximize their experience within the park through real-time information on Disneyland weather, park hours, activities, schedules, expected crowd levels, wait times for select attractions, and admission days for various levels of season pass holders. 1955 COLLECTIBLE SECTION The Register, as it was called in 1955, published a 16-page special section on the weekend Disneyland opened that previewed what would be seen in the park. Dubbed the “Premiere Souvenir Edition Walt Disney’s Magic Kingdom,” the 1955 section features a message from Walt Disney himself on the front page, with stories inside detailing everything from the antique shops that graced Main Street U.S.A. to futuristic attractions like TWA’s Rocket to the Moon in Tomorrowland. In celebration of Disneyland’s diamond anniversary, the Register issued eprints of the section as it appeared in 1955 to distribute to all Disneyland employees (also known as cast members). A must-have collectible for Disney fans, the 1955 section will be available in limited quantities for Register subscribers and the general public. The public may also order up to five copies of the 1955 and 2015 sections together by mail by visiting ocregister.com/go/disneyland60.
