OC Register President: It's a Mistake Not to Invest in Print

By: Lauren Indvik | Mashable

Over the past eight years, newspapers have seen budgets cut and newsrooms shrink as readers — and more crucially, advertisers — have shifted from print to digital devices. To combat those shifts, publishers have drastically cut costs, reduced (or in some cases, completely halted) publication of their print editions, redirecting resources to digital editions and ad products instead.

Eric Spitz, president and co-owner of Freedom Communications and its flagship newspaper, The Orange County Register, believes those publishers are making a big mistake. In July 2012 Spitz, along with Aaron Kushner, founder of private equity/newspaper holding company 2100 Trust LLC, purchased Freedom Communications and its assets, which in addition to the OC Register include a number of other local newspapers and magazines including Coast Magazine.
