Two Denton County, Texas, officials sued the Dallas Observer weekly newspaper for defamation this week, according to a report in The Dallas Morning News.

District Attorney Bruce Isaacks and Juvenile Judge Darlene Whitten claim the Observer harmed their reputations by publishing a fictitious story last month.

Observer Editor Julie Lyons told the Morning News that the story was obviously satire. But a local radio station and college newspaper reported the story as true after the Observer piece was published.
