By: Miki Johnson The Middletown (Ohio) Journal
reported yesterday a record number of page views for a discussion board about union negotiations following an announcement that AK Steel Corp. had locked out thousands of striking union workers.
The board recorded more that 117,000 page views and a flurry of messages both supporting and criticizing the strikers in the 32-hour period after the midnight announcement. In the first half hour alone, more than 8,000 page views poured in. The site usually records about 180,000 page views for an entire week, said Ken Paxson, Cox Ohio Web producer.
The newspaper has produced three video clips about AK-AEIF negotiations, which have garnered a record 4,000 page views the past few days, including almost 3,000 who watched the launch of the newspaper?s new daily Webcast and the videos of ?AK Employees Wait,? Paxson said.
The news that AK Steel Corp. had locked out more than 2,600 members of the Armco Employees Independent Federation was broken by an entry from AEIFWife on the paper's blog dedicated to the recent negotiations.
