'Oklahoman' Launches Two Digital Formats

By: E&P Staff The Oklahoman has launched two digital formats: an interactive, searchable PDF version it calls the Classic edition, and a digital newspaper version it calls the Desktop Reader.

Chris Reen, executive vice president of OPUBCO Communications Group, a division of privately-owned The Oklahoma Publishing Co., said he believes the only other newspaper offering a similar digital newspaper version is The New York Times.

The new formats are designed to give readers additional options to access Oklahoman content, and are expected to add to the company's claimed total 7-day unduplicated market reach of 80%.

"Our mission is to provide news and advertising and information on whatever platform, in whatever way our readers are comfortable," Reen said.

The Classic edition is a website that allows viewing of the Oklahoman as it appears in print via an interactive, searchable PDF. Readers are able to access the last seven days of content, email stories, search articles and take advantage of other features.

The Desktop Reader edition is an application that reading of the Oklahoman in a digital newspaper environment. Once installed, readers can sync it via their Internet connection and receive updated news, features and photos.
