By: Dexter Hill Santa selling newspapers? It's happening in Michigan today. Members of the Old Newsboy Association are hitting the streets of Lansing, selling a parody edition of the Lansing State Journal for charity.

The newspaper pokes fun at local events and public figures, according to WLNS News in Lansing. Proceeds from the fake newspapers will go to buy shoes and boots for schoolchildren in Lansing and surrounding areas.

The Lansing Spoof Journal is the Old Newsboy Association?s primary fundraiser, according to the organization, and is celebrating its 85th year. The tradition began in 1924, when Lansing truant officer George Palmer started a fund to provide children with shoes so they could attend school. What started as the Palmer Fund became the Old Newsboys fundraising campaign, according to the State Journal.

Last year, the sale helped more than 3,700 children, and this year?s donation goal is $140,000, according to the State Journal. Donations will also be accepted at the Old Newsboy Association?s Web site, http://www.lansingoldnewsboys.org/.
