Oliphant Cartoons to be Published in China

Posted
By: E&P Staff Pat Oliphant will become perhaps the first American editorial cartoonist to be published in mainland China by a Chinese-language newspaper.

His Universal Press Syndicate cartoons are slated to start running in the 600,000-circulation Beijing Youth Daily within about a month.

"To the best of our knowledge and research, he's the first," said John McMeel, chairman of Andrews McMeel Universal, parent company of the syndicate.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning Oliphant has been syndicated internationally since 1965 -- 15 years before he signed with Universal.
