ONA Names Schwab Executive Director, Secures New Funding

By: E&P Staff The Online News Association, has named Lori Schwab its new, full-time executive director, and has announced that it has received grants from both the Knight and Ford foundations.

Schwab was the founding executive director of the New York New Media Association, where she significantly increased the number of members and helped the organization to develop major sources of corporation and foundation financial support. She is an adjunct professor of Internet and Media Studies at CUNY's City College and has been a board member for New York Women in Communications.

The ONA has received a $225,000 grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation to help fund Schwab's hiring and to fund the new Knight Public Service Award, which has been added this year to the Online Journalism Awards. An additional $25,000 has been awarded by the Ford Foundation's Challenge Fund for Journalism -- supported by Ford, Knight and the Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation.
