Talk about a tumultuous 12 months.

A year ago, Jill Abramson was still the executive editor of The Times. Her abrupt ouster on the afternoon of May 14 feels more remote than that, maybe because of the rapid rate of change and the extraordinarily eventful year that followed. (She landed on her feet, teaching at Harvard, beginning a new venture to fund long-form journalism and writing a book.)
