By: E&P Staff The Online News Association drew a record-breaking crowd of digital journalists to its annual conference, held Sept. 11-13 at the Capital Hilton. In attendance were more than 700 journalists from around the world.
At ONA08, which this year expanded to feature the latest social media tools designed to distribute news content across the Web, more than 500 people followed conference sessions through live Twittering, while bloggers covered sessions in real time.
The ONA Job Fair, another first for the Association's annual gathering, attracted 134 job-seekers who met with 14 recruiters from media companies including USA TODAY, The New York Times, and National Public Radio.
The Online Journalism Awards Banquet closed the conference by honoring the best in digital journalism, with ELPAIS.com and soitu.es claiming the first General Excellence awards for non-English sites; OregonLive.com winning the new award for Online Video Presentation, and STLtoday.com/St. Louis Post-Dispatch and dallasnews.com/The Dallas Morning News each claiming two awards.
ONA will celebrate its 10th anniversary at the 2009 conference, set for Oct. 1-3 at the Hilton San Francisco.
