Irvine, Calif.--Freedom Communications has announced that Terry Horne, a 35-year newspaper veteran who has guided the Freedom Communications flagship
Orange County Register for the past four years as publisher and president, will retire Sept. 30.
Horne also oversees day-to-day operations of
Orange County Register Communications, a diverse information company that publishes a portfolio of community newspapers, websites and magazines in addition to the Register. As regional vice president of the Pacific region, he is responsible for overall supervision of Freedom’s properties in Yuma, Ariz. and Marysville, Porterville and Victorville, all in California.
Horne joined Freedom as publisher of the
East Valley Tribune in Mesa, Ariz. after serving as vice president of community newspapers at the
Arizona Republic in Phoenix from 2004 to 2007. From 2000 to 2004, he was vice president and chief operations officer of Swift Newspapers, headquartered in Reno, Nev.
Earlier in his career he was publisher of newspapers in West Virginia, Maryland and Kansas. A native of Oklahoma, he received a B. A. in journalism from Wichita State University and a M.S. in mass communications from Oklahoma State University.
Horne and his family will be returning to Phoenix.
Freedom plans to conduct a nationwide search for a replacement.
