By: E&P Staff The Orange County Register in Santa Ana, Calif., on Monday announced the arrival of its new mobile news app for the iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Windows smartphones, and will be available on Palm webOS later this month.
The app provides immediate access to the latest Orange County news and information, and includes the tabs Top News, My News (which allows users to customize news their feeds by specific sections or blogs), Video, Latest, and More (to access settings, provide feedback on the app, access other apps or saved articles, and view account information).
?Mobile offers a level of convenience, accessibility and personalization that makes it an extremely valuable tool for delivering content and engaging the community,? Terry Horne, President and Publisher at Orange County Register Communications, said in a statement. ?As a trusted local news source and facilitator of commerce, the Register is creating solutions that play to the strengths of the mobile medium in providing instant access to community news reports and direct connections to local businesses.?
The app also includes share options, such as sending to Facebook, Twitter or e-mail. It is available as a free download through ocregister.com/mobile or by texting OCAPP to 56654.
The Register will soon launch apps devoted to events and real estate, and is developing several other local and topic-specific apps to launch during the second half of 2010. The newspaper is partnering with mobile app developer Handmark in the creation and distribution of its apps.
