Orlando Sentinel Awards First Annual Digital Journalism Scholarship

By: E&P Staff David How and Jordan Rogers, students at the University of Central Florida, have been awarded the first annual Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel Digital Journalism Scholarship.

The award includes upwards of $6,000 in scholarship for each recipient, as well as an internship at the Sentinel's Interactive Department.

The scholarship was established in December 2005 through an endowment, and is open to full-time seniors at the University of Central Florida's School of Film and Digital Media. The qualifications for the scholarship include a 3.0 overall grade point average, three reference letters (including one from a UCF faculty member), a resume, a digital portfolio of work, a UCF transcript, and a completed application detailing academic and extracurricular experience.

How, of Melbourne, Fla., originally attended UCF as an art education major. He is now majoring in Digital Media, as is Rogers, the other recipient.

Rogers, of Jacksonville, Fla., has made 20 independent films and documentaries, and is a former graphics intern for Orange County.
