By: Joe Strupp Charlotte H. Hall, editor of the Florida's Orlando Sentinel, was elected treasurer-designate of the American Society of Newspaper Editors, the organization announced in a release Monday.
ASNE board members chose Hall during their fall board meeting, in Springfield, Ohio, on Oct. 1. Hall
will become treasurer of the group in April at the annual convention and will be on course to become
ASNE president in April 2008.
"I'm honored and humbled to be chosen for leadership in ASNE, which plays such a vital role in guarding America's First Amendment freedoms and advancing journalism," Hall said in a statement. "I look forward to serving our members and speaking out on the wide range of issues of interest to them, from diversity and readership to newsroom ethics and credibility."
ASNE President Karla Garrett Harshaw, editor of the Springfield (Ohio) News-Sun, called Hall "dedicated and hard-working and pleasant."
Hall joins an ASNE board consisting of Harshaw; vice-president Rick Rodriguez, executive editor of The Sacramento (Calif.) Bee; secretary David Zeeck, executive editor of The News Tribune in Tacoma, Wash.; and treasurer Gilbert Bailon, editor of Al Dia in Dallas.
