Orphan Works Act Near-Miss Explained

By: Dave Astor It looks like the Orphan Works Act -- opposed by the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists (AAEC), the National Cartoonists Society, and many other artist and writer organizations -- almost did come up for a vote last Friday in the U.S. House of Representatives.

An E&P story that day had reported that the AAEC was wondering about imminent House action on the legislation, which would dilute copyright protection.

Explaining the near-miss in an online post was the Public Knowledge organization, which supports the Orphan Works Act. Its explanation can be seen here.
