By: E&P Staff Quipp sold seven Packman packaging systems to The Ottawa Citizen. The equipment will go into the CanWest Publications newspaper in the next few months.
Packman addresses challenge of bundle quality in large inserted Sunday products by containing each bundle through the entire process.
Morris Communications' Lubbock (Texas) Avalanche-Journal bought from Quipp an inserter expansion consisting of four new feeders to be installed on its inserters in the third quarter.
Quipp recently received stacker orders from: the Greeley (Colo.) Daily Tribune (one 500C, with bundle-compression and stream-squeeze roller); Lewiston, Maine, Sun Journal and Anderson (S.C.) Independent-Mail (each one 500W); Lexington (Ky.) Herald-Leader and The Advocate, Newark, Ohio (each one 500N); Journal Enquirer, Manchester, Conn. (two 501Ns, with Win 32 stacker programmer).
PC-based and manifest-directed, Quipp's Win32 stacker programming system simultaneously controls output of up to four stackers producing variable- and/or standard-count bundles in predetermined size and sequence. The objective is to assure maximum count accuracy in delivering products to all circulation destinations, without manual counting or marking during production.
Quipp also announced it created a kit for upgrading 15-year-old Model 300/301 stacker controls with the same technology used in Model 500 stackers. While many of the old components are unavailable or expensive, the upgrade kit protects stacjer investments. The kit includes an LCD color touchscreen, card cage with integrated 24-volt power supply, and I/O, CPU, stepper drive, and video control boards. A communications upgrade requires an additional card. Quipp field service personnel can install the kit.
